36 week facts
- Henry is as big as a melon. Not a water melon but maybe honeydew.
- I weigh 145 which is 29 lbs up from my starting weight. I feel smaller than last time though. I'm not sure why considering I'm measuring a week ahead.
- I had a cervix check this week and I'm 60% effaced but not dilated. I sorta want to put myself on bed rest so he stays in longer lol. Who does that?
- Henry is officially head down! After weeks of worrying and doing everything possible (Chiropractor for the Webster technique, inversion, etc) he is head down! Yay :).
- I don't think I'll ever be fully prepared for Henry. I feel like I cross 2 things off my list and add 5 more. But car seat is installed and we have diapers. What else do I really need?!
- I never had Braxton Hicks with Eloise and I'm having them this time around. They aren't fun.
-I haven't had any heartburn and he ultrasound tech said baby is bald. Maybe there's truth to the old wives tale after all :)
- I'm also still not swollen at all! No fat foot and rings still fit! I'm constantly amazed how different this pregnancy is. I thought it was a boy vs girl thing but dr said its a first pregnancy vs second thing. Who knows!
- I still crave ice and very cold crisp apples.

31 weeks!!!
I can't believe Henry will be here (most likely) in less than 10 weeks!! Time has flown! But seriously, we have really nothing prepared. We got a new swing which I was desperate for and a crib sheet. He has a couple outfits, but his room is still set up like Eloise's nursery. We did paint it tan, but have nothing else . I need to get on it.
I have officially entered the uncomfortable stage. I had the stomach flu (again) on Friday and ended up in the hospital and then had Severe heartburn. It was awful. I'm finally feeling better but now I am getting pregnant uncomfortable. I can't do as much as I want, I am out of breath easily, I have low iron which I take a pill for, but I still get winded easily. I just started to notice my rings are getting tighter and clothes aren't fitting the same. The sciatica pain is off and on. I used to feel like a cute pregnant lady. Now I just feel big! Lol! It's getting harder to sleep comfortably and breathing is becoming harder. Ugh I can't believe we are at this stage already. I also slipped on ice and now my knee and ankle are killing me. All I want to do is sleep lately, I know fun times. But for me, I am trying to get as much sleep in as possible NOW because I know what the future holds. Also, I'm really tired.
Anyway, everyone keeps saying they think this baby is going to be early. I used to think he was gonna be late but for some weird reason April 13th is sticking out to me. I have no idea but I feel like he is going to come on April 13th. I used to say April 28th but I have offically changed to April 13th.
Besides that I am just counting down the days until SPRING BREAK!!!
Eloise updates:
- had croup again after my birthday but has recovered nicely
- she is very much into playing pretend with her "friends" which are her little figurines. They have conversations with each other and it's hilarious!
- big girl bed sleeping is going well. Lately she isn't waking up at all until morning (which is earlier than usual but better than middle of the night wake ups.)
-She still LOVES mickey and minnie and the Little Einsteins but is mostly into the princesses. Aurora is her absolute favorite and everything has princess and castles in her world.
-She has been getting into Doc McStuffins and my mother bought her a couple toys so now she will announce randomly that she wants to be a doctor. I better start saving now.
-She has been saying some really cute things lately.
We were at Lowes picking out a curtain rod for Henry's Room....
Julian: "Do you like coming to Lowes with mommy and daddy?"
Eloise: "No, I like tutus"
We were in the car on the way out to dinner and someone stopped short in front of Julian so he beeped the horn loudly.
Eloise: "Daddy, no beeping. It makes me mervous" (her word for nervous. How she knows what this means I have no idea).
If Julian and I are talking or if I am driving and she is in the backseat and she has something to say she will always start with, "Excuse me Mommy...." or "Excuse me Daddy..." and tell us what it is that she needs to tell us.
Whenever it is time for bed, she will negotiate with 1 more show, or 1 more minute, or 1 more movie. Everything is 1 more. She is a good negotiator.
I was packing up a bag of toys to bring to Nan's house because my mother keeps buying all this random stuff and it has taken over my house. Eloise complains that Nan needs 'big girl toys' so I was making a big bag filled with toys that can go to Nan's house to stay. I told Eloise we needed to fill it with toys for Nan.... But, she then told me, "Aurora and Cinderella will miss me"
If I say "I love you Eloise" she will answer with "I love you too mommy"
Julian was being funny and farting in Duke's face and Eloise got all upset and said "NO NO NO DADDY!! NO TOOTING ON DUKE" It was one of the most hilarious things EVER.

28 weeks
28 weeks THE FACTS
--I weight 133 lbs. The doctor says my starting weight was 116, but that was at my first appointment which I was bloated and already a couple weeks pregnant and I really don't think that is my starting weight. I was weighed at the heart doctor in mid-July right before I got pregnant and I was 110. So whatever, I'm up somewhere around 20 lbs (give or take a few depending on who you ask). 12 more weeks to go (again give or take a few) and I am trying to stay around what I gained last time (33lbs). We will see...
--I am measuring a week ahead. The doctor isn't too worried about this, because he says you tend to get bigger for each pregnancy. I haven't gotten my glucose results yet, but they should be coming in soon. Isn't it bigger babies are at a higher risk or something? Maybe he is big..... I just highly doubt it with how little Eloise was that I would have a big baby. But, who knows? I am really praying I pass this glucose test with flying colors ;) I don't feel like going in for the three hour one. Who has time for that???
--He is currently head down. I feel so much movement all over the place that I asked Dr. Keelan to take a look. He said that no matter what he felt today, doesn't mean that is how baby will be at the time of delivery, because it is still a little early. But he felt around and said that the head was definitely down, he seemed very sure of that. I am happy about that and hope he stays that way!
--We seriously have NOTHING for baby Henry. Poor second child. We haven't painted the nursery but we put a sample up. I have a couple of outfits I bought and one my mom gave us for Christmas. We bought a blue crib sheet yesterday at Target. Poor kid. I have to really buckle down and figure out what is MOST important to get before he arrives and spend Spring Break getting it. I am thinking, a new first aid kid, bath supplies, the Baby K'tan wrap, swing/bouncer, pacifiers, swaddles are most important. Then the big stuff like a new pack n play and a stroller can be next in line. So much to think about and NO time to actually do anything.
-- My insurance SAID they would cover a breast pump but I need a prescription from a doctor. Dr. Keelan wrote the prescription but warned me that sometimes they SAY they will but then for some reason or another they don't. Oh well, I gotta try. If we can't get it covered, that moves right up to top priority on my list of things we need haha. I really didn't mind being the source of Eloise's food for the first year, but it would have been nice to give her a bottle once in a while. So, I am determined to at least giving pumping a better try this time around.
-- Baby's name is definitely Henry Thomas Barker. Other names we considered were Samuel, Jude and Brody. We even considered Thomas as a first name. But, there is a little boy "Sam" at church that has become a friend of Eloise and I just felt that the name is super popular now and that it would be weird to name my son the same thing as another little boy we see once a week. I still love the name though...BIG TIME. Maybe next boy. Thomas I love, but Julian and I both don't like Tom. And Tom is pretty inevitable. Jude is cute, but not manly enough for me. And Brody is too trendy I think. I really wanted to stick with old fashioned, or classic. So, Henry Thomas it is! I can't wait to meet you little boy!!!

Wants vs Needs
With Eloise, I felt like I was so over prepared, especially at this point in my pregnancy. This time around, I barely remember I am pregnant, so I haven't really begun to think about the things we are going to need. So, I decided to make a list of things for Henry that we need. Some of this "needs" may look like "wants" but if it is super important to me, I put it in the "need" because it's my list and I can :)
NEEDS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE
--Boppy Pillow/Breast Friend pillow
--Diaper Dekor (but we do need refills)
--Nursery Furniture
--Activity Center
--Jumparoo
--White onesies
--Monitor
--Changing pad
--Crib Mattress
--Infant Car Seat and base
--Diaper Bag (I wouldn't mind a new one though)
NEEDS/MUST GET
-- New swing (Eloise pretty much lived in a swing the first couple months, which the mobile thing is missing and I don't feel comfortable letting Henry lay down in poop stains...)
-- New Bouncer ( Ours actually started ripping from her bouncing around a lot)
-- Activity Mat (ours is pink and green and Henry likes blue lol)
-- Baby boy clothes
--Baby K'tan wrap. Moby is great but too complicated to put on every time the baby is crying. I have a feeling baby #2 will be worn way more because Eloise will need my hands. I have heard great things about the Baby K'tan
--Double Stroller -- I am thinking a Bob this time. Easy fold, lighter weight, etc.
--Carseat Adapter for Double stroller.
--Crib Sheets and decorations for the room
--Dreft
--Pacifiers
--Bath Sponge
--California Baby Bath supplies
--Breast Pump and bottles (I am going to give better effort this time) I have heard we can get a breast pump through insurance but I have to look more into it to see what we actually get.
--Towel with a hood
--Swaddles
--Co-sleeper for my bed, the one I want is Snuggle Nest. I ended up sleeping in bed with Eloise a lot and didn't get much sleep because I worried. This will take the worry out because it is made for baby sleeping in bed with you
--Another sound machine (Eloise still uses hers)
--New Pack n Play that isn't pink. What does it matter? I don't know, I just don't want Henry to use Pink stuff, I am not a gender neutral mom, sue me.
--New bigger nursing cover (ALREADY ORDERED. I FOUND A GREAT DEAL ONLINE)
OTHER THINGS I WANT
--Vera Bradley Baby Book
--Ergo Carrier for when he is older
--Kickstand for the Bugaboo
--Newborn Photographer (booked and ready!! AHH!! I love this part and I am so glad I found someone more reasonably priced than last time)
--New Boppy cover
--New lovies for Henry

Randomness of all sorts and 25 weeks pregnant
Let's start with what is going on in my life right now!
* I am 25 weeks pregnant as of January 10th. I have gained a total of 17 lbs (ugh) and I want steak and burgers with lots of cheese all of the time. I am feeling pretty good, but things are starting to get tougher. For example, carrying Eloise up and down stairs, bending over to tie my shoes, giving Eloise her bath, etc. give me all sorts of pains. Typical pregnancy complaints (poor me haha). I have the glucose test at the end of this month and it is also my 30th BIRTHDAY!!!!! I can't believe I am going to be 30. I am excited and a little anxious about it. I mean, age is just a number that gets bigger every year. Nothing I can do about it. But, 30 sounds so old. I guess I am old.
* Eloise is officially in her big girl room in a big girl bed!!! We made the transition over Christmas break. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but it had its up and downs for SURE. Let me start off by saying she LOVES her big girl bed. She tells anyone who listens that she sleeps in a big girl bed (she also always mentions that she can get out). She told me she wanted to take her big girl bed with her to Disney World. So, she really likes it. She loves her new room and has no interest in the nursery at all. She calls it "Henry's room" and really isn't showing signs of wanting to be in there. I was nervous that she would want her room and be jealous of Henry. But, that is definitely not the case. Ok, so as far as the transition.....
The first night I laid down with her in the bed to keep her in, she fell asleep easily, I snuck out (not so easily with bed rails and a big pregnant belly) and she slept from about 8:00-7:30 which is her typical sleeping habit. In her crib she would have slept about the same. I was ecstatic. THIS WAS GOING TO BE SO EASY. oh no no no, don't speak so soon silly me. The next couple of nights were disastrous. She would fall asleep easily but get out 1 billion times and wouldn't go back to sleep. Each night, I would eventually (after hours in the middle of the night of trying to get her to go back to sleep) put her in the crib and leave. She would cry for about 1 minute and go right to sleep and sleep until 7:30. Way to go, I need her OUT of the crib not IN it. But, I also really like sleep. I had Julian buy a lock for the outside of her door and told him we were going to lock her in (Mother of the Year over here...)
ANYWAY, so I had to go to work that week for the end of the week and I didn't want to deal with a child who doesn't sleep and getting up early for work. So we went full time back to the crib for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each night she would scream/cry that she wanted her big girl bed and I would just tell her that she couldn't go in her big girl bed because she got out and she has to sleep there all night or else she sleeps in "Henry's Crib". She calls it that now.
So, Then it was Friday night and I figured I didn't have to get up early so I could handle trying again. This time I didn't lay with her. I stayed in the room on a chair (like I would when she was in her crib) and she fell asleep easily (falling asleep has never really been her problem). I barely slept that night because I was so nervous. Well, at 11:30 she woke up and came and got me, with about 1 million of her stuffed friends. She could barely walk across the hall carrying her entourage. But, I told her she had to go back to sleep like a big girl, gave her a kiss, tucked her back in, and left. She went back to bed and woke up at like 6-6:30. Ok, this I could handle. She repeated this for the next couple of nights. Then, these last couple of nights she has been sleeping through the night without getting up at the 11:30-12:00 range but waking up FOR THE DAY at 5:15. Whew. I am tired. But, I will take it. She sleeps from 7:30-5:15 and she is in her big girl bed. It's still only the first full week we have been doing this, so who knows what will happen next. But, I am pretty pumped that we have made it this far. No more crib for babygirl. As Eloise would say, "I am not a baby, I'm a big girl".
*My last day of work is going to be April 2nd. It is a Tuesday! The countdown in officially on :) I am using all my sick days and my 12 weeks of Family Leave Act and that gives us benefits until the beginning of October. Then I took no pay/no benefit leave until January 30. I can always extend again, but I have to see where we are financially and everything before I go jumping to conclusions. I am so excited to have this time off with my babies, but I know that having a secure job to go back to whenever I need it, is really an amazing blessing. Also, having my mom watch Eloise rules. She loves Nan so much and Nan takes her to art class, gym class, and swimming. NAN GETS IN THE POOL AND SWIMS WITH MOMMY AND ME SWIM CLASS. Nan's the best! I hate getting in the pool for mommy and me swim so I am super excited that Eloise gets to have loads of fun and Nan is enjoying herself too! I even asked my mom if she will still come and take Eloise to her classes on MWF once Henry is born. She said she would. I am so happy, because I don't want having a new baby to mess with Eloise's fun. I know so much is going to change for her, and of course, I am worried about that. But, at least I can keep something the same.

Boy or Girl?
I am having a boy!! I cannot tell you how excited we are to be able to experience each sex. Julian is sooooo happy it is so great! He feels so proud that he is going to have a son. I love having a little girl and I am sure I will love having a little boy. From what I hear, it is two totally different worlds, so I am really looking forward to see what a baby boy will be like!! Also, we actually *tried* for the boy, so for me, it worked. We did exactly what we were supposed to to and BOOM we got our little boy! I feel so blessed!
Anyway, I wanted to do a comparison of Old Wives tales to see which ones were true (for me) and which ones weren't....
Chinese Gender Chart: Both times on the Bump's Chinese Gender Chart, when I filled out my information, I was told boy. Eloise is obviously not a boy, so it was wrong there. This time, we are having a boy, so it was right. I wouldn't trust this test :)
Girls make you crave sweets and boys make you crave salty: YES YES YES!!! This is 100% true in my case. When I was pregnant with Eloise, all I wanted was ice cream and cookies and wedding cake. Wierd, right? I also wanted other sweet things like fruit or sweet tea. Don't get me wrong, french fries were yummy but I didn't want them all the time. This time around, I would rather eat pizza and french fries and fried chicken and chips. I still like cookies and such, but I don't really crave it. I CRAVE salty treats. This test I believe to be correct!!
Boys you just gain in your belly and girls you gain all over: I actually think this one is true. I didn't think I was gaining all over last time, but I was. Comparing last pregnancy to this pregnancy, I needed a bigger size last time in jeans and pants. This time, I am not gaining as much wait all over. I know this now, because I am having two totally different pregnancies!
Girls give you morning sickness and boys don't.: True for me!! I actually never had morning sickness with either, but I definitely felt more sick with Eloise. I was nauseous feeling and more tired with her than this time around. I thought I was pregnant with a boy last time because I wasn't throwing up, so I didn't have morning sickness. But, comparing the two, this time I felt NOTHING even close to sickness in the first trimester, but with little Miss I had my moments of not feeling well. I think this one is true for me!
Feeling movement before 20 weeks is a boy, after 20 weeks is a girl: TRUE AGAIN! I didn't feel ANYTHING close to movement until my 20 week ultrasound and then it was just flutters for a couple weeks. This time, I felt movement at 16 weeks and by 20 weeks I could feel movement with my hand on my belly. That didn't happen for a long time with Eloise. He's kicking and flipping all over the place and she wasn't as active. ANOTHER TRUTH (at least in my case).
Hair on your legs grows faster with a boy: True! I feel like a hairy man this time around, I felt like my hair really slowed growth on my legs with Eloise. This little boy is turning me into a hairy monster.
TRUE!
Butt gets big with a girl and not with a boy: Not true in my case. Actually it's the complete opposite. My butt did get bigger with Eloise, but this time, it is wayyy bigger. So this is not true for me.
Girls give you acne and suck away your beauty and boy's make you beautiful: I didn't get acne really at all with either pregnancy but I do feel prettier this time. Last time, I had pregnancy mask (which I have this time just not as pronounced) and I had my occasional breakout. This time, thank goodness, there have been no skin issues that I can tell yet. So, I guess in a sense, this is true.
Heartbeat over 140 BPM means girl and under 140 BPM means boy: This heart rate has been different each time, so this one has no clout in my book
So maybe there is some truth to those Old Wives Tales..

The Christmas Season
This is my first Christmas Season that I have been working in a couple of years, and boy it's busy!! I just feel like there are too many things on my to do list and not enough time to do it all! Ha! Thanksgiving and Eloise's birthday was a crazy weekend and now it's December and the crazy doesn't stop! Luckily, this is the good kind of crazy and everything we have planned is fun and exciting!!
Julian is back to work full time which makes him excited, and I am so happy for him! I just sometimes miss my house husband! But, it's been great and he seems so happy! Besides that, this past weekend we were busy! We shopped for a mattress for Eloise's new bed, had a North Pole Breakfast thanks to Pete the Elf (Eloise named him, not us lol!) and did all the inside decorating for Christmas. Decorating with a toddler can be challenging and we learned how fast expensive ornaments can be broken. But, we learned and she enjoyed it and asks for more ornaments all the time. On Sunday, our family was asked to do the first reading and candle lighting at our church for advent! It was really special and I'm glad we did it! Pastor Ray even announced that we were pregnant to the congregation and everyone was really sweet.
This week I have progress reports to do and we are finding out if Eloise is gonna have a baby brother or sister!! I still am 90% sure it's a boy, but I guess we will see if I predicted correctly! My mom watches Eloise now everyday (since Julian's back at work) and is trying to move back to sea bright. So tomorrow will be Eloise's first day back at Nan's house since the storm and we are praying she naps in a pack n play in my parents room amongst the crazy that is my parents bottom floor (workers/noise/George).
Next weekend we have the Christmas party up north for the children in a group home. Instead of doing gifts this year with any of my family (cousins/siblings/etc) we are all just donating what we would have spent and giving these kids a great Christmas!! It is double the amount of kids this year and we are trying to get them better gifts. Doing this is really making us see what Christmas is about! And of course, Julian is being Santa again which is hilarious.
We also have our town's Christmas Tree lighting. We missed it last year (by a day....yes we walked in the freezing cold to en empty park to see an already lit Christmas tree) I'm excited to do this and hopefully make it a tradition. It takes place in our park so it's close by and a fun little thing we can look forward to each year!
Then of course there are family Christmas gatherings and my friend's Christmas and the live Nativity at Church and a gingerbread house party I'm throwing for my class (ugh so much work but they love it). We have to set up Eloise's big girl room (I'm avoiding the inevitable) and start work on the nursery! I need to figure out my last day of work and hand in all the paperwork. Lots to do and before I know it, it'll be January!
